welcome, friend
The music of L. A. Potter, a Nashville musician, composer, songwriter, and friend. I love writing music for video game themes, cinema/ short film, and I even indulge in some lyrics every now and then. I compose primarily with Finale, Studio One, and GarageBand.
Feel free to have a look around! As always, I am available to contact through email, and happy to accommodate any requests and commissions.
The Lady in Grey
This piece was composed for the pet project of creating a musical out of one of my favorite children’s books, The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman. This piece represents when the main character dances the Danse Macabre with the enigmatic Lady On The Grey.
Expansion Through the Galaxy
Inspired by some gameplay of Star Wars: The Old Republic, this is one of my favorite finished pieces. One of my most ambitious projects, you can hear the mystery in the exposition of this piece, the intrigue as enemies are sighted, and the battle themes, all flowing together as one full idea.
Overture - The Graveyard Boy
Another piece for the musical based on Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book (as a musical it is no longer a book, so the project is called “The Graveyard Boy” for now), this is the theme of the graveyard itself, as the inhabitants of the graveyard accept the boy into their world and give him a proper name - Nobody Owens.
Who Will Buy (Oliver!)
I love the musical Oliver!, and this is without a doubt one of my favorite sequences from the show. I simply woke up one day with the thought “what if Oliver was an 8-bit video game?”
Blood
While watching the Castlevania series on Netflix, I became inspired in the middle of a fight scene to write an action-filled piece for string quintet (2 violins, viola, cello and bass). And what better to title a piece about fighting vampires than simply “Blood”?
Circuitous
A bit outside of my wheelhouse, this electronic piece came into being when I realized no acoustic instruments could sufficiently capture the idea I had. A compelling bassline coupled with a simple chord progression and snappy drums make it a fun and satisfying groove.
